Last Originals

July 1, 2009 By Mike Bumbeck

last_originalsThe sun pierced through the fog in Pacifica, California last weekend for the first time since 1953. Well, maybe 1977. Pacifica is in fact world famous for its fog, but some warm rays did shine through long enough to bathe the Last Originals 6th Annual Hot Rod & Custom Car Show in summer-like weather at the Pacifica Sea Bowl. The Last Originals have been around since 1994, and welcome any car, truck, or motorcycle at their gatherings. This long standing all cars for one cause tradition attracted an international mix of hot rods and customs, seventies muscle, race-inspired street rods, a few t-buckets, and even an award-winning brush painted van. Really!

What an awesome show. I’d never heard of it before, but it’s definitely something I’d like to check out one day. I love the idea of so much variety. Cars & Coffee might be great and all, but it’s more like a showing of bank accounts for the most part. This show, on the other hand, is all about elbow grease and imagination. That’s rad.

Also kinda cool, imo. Last time I was in Irvine for C&C, I spotted some cool, Chrysler L-body action. They might not be in the show, but they’re never very far, those crazy Omni guys.

Anyway, neat show. Thanks for sharing.
