At the risk of sounding somewhat NorCal-provincial, the Monterey Historics are the one can’t-miss automotive event of the year. And within that cornucopia of delicious machines from bygone days, the IMSA GT-class race that closes out Sunday features machines (Dekon Monzas, Porsche 935s, Ferrari 512BB LMs) the children of the ’70s and ’80s grew up with. What’s more, this year’s featured marque was Porsche. And while every year, the men from Stuttgart are amply represented, this year was Teutonic overload. 917Ks. 917/10s. 917/30s. Carrera 6s. 962s. 956s. The Penske/Donohue Sunoco Turbopanzer was conspicuous in its absence. Beyond the racing machines, basically every vintage 911 of any oddball stripe within a thousand-mile radius showed up for the event. Manna from Porsche-dork heaven, to be sure.

The photography is f*ckin’ amazing on this site.
Sorry I haven’t been by more, fellas…AWESOME site. BTW, I came over because of a cross post on Jalop.

I’ll probably be branded a philistine, but that Holman-Moody prepped ’63 Galaxie really revs my V8. Don’t get me wrong, the other cars are great but that Ford would make me happier than all the others combined (well, maybe with the exception of the Bug).

One of these days, I’ve got to get out to NorCal to check out these historics. I bet it sounds awesome. Particularly the “Quadraphonic Ferrari.”

Quadraphonic Ferrari is mega wicked!

It’s so nice seeing that Brumos livery on a proper racer. *sigh*

Wow. Best photographs I’ve seen of this year’s event. Keep up the great work, folks!

Wait, wasn’t the Quadraphonic Ferrari a NART? I thought it had NART livery and bodywork. I could be wrong, because I’ve been before. Regardless, NART or LM, it was a beautiful car and made simply glorious noises. Driver was kind of a putz, though.
Davey G. says
This car wasn’t in NART livery. It was an all-blue model, chassis #29511, run by the Gelles brothers in IMSA GTX in ’84-85. At least, that’s what I could glean from fifteen minutes or so of frantic Googling. There was a NART 512 BB LM, though.

Excellent. I learned supmin’ today. Thanks!
